The Crucible is this year's fall drama... and very dramatic it is!  Dealing with the difficult time in the late 1600s in which the Salem Witch Trials occurred, The Crucible is loosely based on historical events.  Written by Arthur Miller, The Crucible was (in its premier time) a commentary on the political happenings (McCarthyism) of its time.  All performances are in the evening (7:30 pm curtain) because the show is full of high drama and not particularly child-friendly.  Parents, please use your own judgment about whether your child is mature enough to handle such a performance.  If you need more information to make a decision for your family, feel free to email director Sarah Barthel:  barthel@lhsdrama.com

Dress Rehearsal Photos from Sunday, 10/14/07

(above left) Act II Scene ii:  Willard (Chris Mallory) keeps order in the vestry room at the courthouse where Abigail and the girls (Cristina Inda, Nicole Nomany, Alyssa N. Hamlin, Kayla Hadley, & Angela Maciel) accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft.  In the background, Judge Hathorne (Donald Kemp), Ezekiel Cheever (Devin A. Day) and Rev. Hale (Joel A. Martin) lend their attention to Deputy Governor Danforth (Stephen Aldama - not pictured here). (above right) Act I Scene i:  Reverend Samuel Parris (Cooper W. Barrick) speaks with Reverend Hale (Joel A. Martin) about his sick daughter Betty (Alyssa N. Hamlin, not pictured here).  Abigail Williams (Jessica McGinty) and Thomas Putnam (Corbin Vickers) look on as Reverend Hale consults his many books on witchcraft.

Rehearsals for The Crucible are in the final stages.  Tech week has arrived so if you're behind, get busy and learn those lines!!!   It is EXTREMELY important that all actors and crew are prompt to rehearsals so that we can begin on time.  The Crucible is a very long show that gets even longer when actors and crew are not giving 100% of their focus and energy to the rehearsal.  All of tech week the schedule will be as follows:

5:30 pm - Director Barthel arrives and unlocks doors for getting into costume and presetting tech elements.

6:15 pm - Start Act I.  Act I is approximately 70 minutes long (35 minutes for each scene).

7:30 pm - (estimated time) Break for 10 minutes.  Snacks will be available in the lobby.  Do NOT eat anything messy in costume!  Take off the top layer of your costume to protect it from cookie crumbs and the like.

7:40 pm - Start Act II.  Act II is approximately 90 minutes long.  Let's try to cut down on that time by picking up cues and speeding up scene changes!

9:15 pm - Hang up costumes and restore all tech for safety.  Specific items (furniture and hand props, for example) can be reset during Advanced Drama class the following day, but special items (microphones, weapon props , etc.) need to be put away before leaving the theatre.  Ask the director or stage manager if you're not sure about a particular item.

If you ever need to use a phone to call your parents/guardians about the status of the rehearsal, do not hesitate to ask.  Usually the director and stage manager have cell phones you can borrow.  There is also a phone in the drama classroom that you can use.  PLEASE do your part to keep these long rehearsals moving so that we can all get home sooner and get some much needed rest.  Thank you!

Below is a list of each scenes in the acting addition of the script.  Please check carefully to see which scenes you (or the part you are understudying) are in so that you don't miss any rehearsals!  Keep in mind the scripts on loan from the textbook room do not match the acting edition exactly.  Specifically, the scene and act breaks are different.

After a long day of "open rehearsals" for English classes, the cast and crew were a little bit loopy at Tuesday night's rehearsal!  A picture's worth a thousand words, right?  This is the definition of "louder, faster, funnier."
